Study characterizes genetic resistance to wheat disease

A new study co-authored by University of Nebraska-Lincoln researchers has unearthed the genetic roots of resistance to the Ug99 strain of wheat stem rust disease. An especially hardy wheat variety named Gage that was co-released by the University of Nebraska and the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1963 turns out to be the key in unlocking this new discovery.
